VentureNet Capital Group, Inc. Announces Developments at Cosmepure International
TEMECULA, Calif., Aug 31, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- VentureNet Capital Group, Inc. (Pink Sheets:VNTN) has announced that Cosmepure International and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas have been awarded a $21,420 Nevada Applied Research Initiative grant to develop skin cancer prevention and gene repair agents using Cosmepure's patent-pending topical delivery system.
Ron Gary, assistant professor of chemistry at UNLV, is in the preliminary stages of the yearlong study, which could aid the more than one million people diagnosed with skin cancer each year.
Cosmepure International and its sister company CellMedics Ltd., in conjunction with chemist Dr. Jacob Vromen of Sydney , Australia ; have developed a patent-pending method that enables delivery of drugs into the bloodstream by skin cream instead of by pills.
"The skin-cream method, called transdermal-drug delivery, increases the effectiveness of drugs, lowers the dose required, and virtually eliminates side-effects," said Cosmepure Chief Executive Scott Shapiro said.
"Cosmepure's researchers discovered the possibilities of administering drugs in skin cream after working on skincare products containing vitamins and micronutrients capable of deep penetration," Shapiro said.
Shapiro has been in talks with major drug manufacturers to produce drugs using Cosmepure's transdermal-drug delivery system. Pharmaceutical companies are interested in the skin cream delivery method because it extends the product life-cycle of existing drugs that have patents expiring and protects them from generic erosion. Further, Cosmepure can apply its proprietary drug delivery technology to formulate its own patented products as part of a rapid commercialization strategy.
The global drug delivery industry is now valued at more than $40 billion and promises to be the fastest-growing segment of the pharmaceutical industry. Drug delivery systems sales are forecast to grow to $75 billion by 2007.
VNTN has been an equity owner in Cosmepure International since 2000 and continues to support their efforts to complete their patent work and realize potential commercialization of their patent-pending transdermal delivery method.
